What bricklayers can claim

The everyday costs of being on the tools come off your taxable profit, and most of these get missed. That’s where your refund hides.

CIS refunds in Coventry

Coventry has the car plants and their supply units on one side and a growing university estate on the other, so the work swings between industrial and institutional. Either way the tools, the travel and the safety gear are bought before the money comes in.

Birmingham and the Black Country have been building hard for years, and the sites are full of CIS subcontractors travelling in from across the region. That travel, and the gear you buy to do the job, is exactly what the 20% deduction ignores.

Construction accounts for around 159,000 jobs in the West Midlands — about 5.3% of all jobs in the region.
If you've overpaid, there's a four-year time limit to claim it back — you can normally go back up to the last four tax years.
